ALUMNI
SUCCESS IN 2002-03 Starting with Alumni that are no longer playing, the Waxers want to congratulate a number of players for their accomplishments this year. Patrick Diotte ('02) returned home to Sudbury this year to go to school after two solid seasons in the Blue and White. It came as no surprise that he was highly sought after and Diotte ended up playing with the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats in the NOJHL. A solid addition to the Sabrecats, Diotte was honoured by the NOJHL, receiving the Most Improved Player Award this season. Mike Clarke ('99) saw his stellar NCAA career come to an end as he was voted Captain of the Elmira College Soaring Eagles, a team that also features Lawne Snyder ('00). Clarke played four terrific years at Elmira and never missed a game. He led the team to the NCAA West Division III title and a spot in the NCAA tournament while garnering an unprecedented 4th straight First All-Star Team Selection this season. Brett Barrer ('99) also finished off his NCAA career playing with the Potsdam Bears. Greg Chambers ('00) completed a solid three-year OHL career with the Peterborough Petes after joining the team as a fee agent and playing this year as an overage forward. Chambers was prominent in the Annual OHL Coaches Poll Awards as he was voted as the player with the Hardest Shot and Best Shot in the Eastern Conference and came second in the Most Dangerous in Goal Area category. Daniel Sisca ('99) was the third leading scorer and team Captain of the Mississauga IceDogs in the OHL. Sisca was a main reason the IceDogs made the OHL playoffs for the first time in team history this season. Jimmy Ball's ('01) London Knights became the talk of the OHL when they upset Windsor in the first round and almost eliminated Plymouth in the second round, going the full 7 games in both of those series. There are still some Alumni who are chasing a Championship and they cover three leagues. First, in the United Hockey League, Tom Lawson ('99) leads his Fort Wayne Komets in to the UHL Finals against the Quad City Mallards. Lawson had a terrific season, not only was he selected to the First All-Star Team for the UHL but was also selected as the UHL Goaltender-of-the-Year. Down the road in Kitchener, Jesse Boucher ('02) and former Head Coach Stephen Spott ('96), are chasing a spot in the Memorial Cup as their Kitchener Rangers will take on the Ottawa 67's in the OHL finals. Finishing first overall during the regular season, the Rangers became Western Conference Champions by beating Plymouth in 7 games. And turning the hockey world on its ear are the oldest Alumni, the duo of Steve Thomas and Adam Oates of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks! After sweeping the defending champs, Detroit Red Wings, in the opening round, the Ducks took a 2-0 lead against Dallas before finally losing their first game during the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. We will keep you all aware of the outcomes of these remaining Alumni as they battle through the post-season.
