Markham stretched its winning streak to 4 games
with a 5-4 shootout victory in Thornhill in their final game before the
Christmas Break. The game was a back and forth affair, with Markham
carrying the first half of the game before fatigue started to hit the
shortstaffed Waxers. Markham still found a way to win, capitalizing on
their chances in the third and riding a Ryan
Olidis goal for the final 5:30 of the game to victory.
The first ended 1-1 after the Waxers opened the
scoring on a powerplay goal in which Riley
Hill went pretty much the distance, undressing the Thornhill defenseman and
goalie for his first of two on the night. In the second, Josh
Jacobs bagged a powerplay goal to make it 2-1 before Thornhill would tie it
sending the game to the third knotted at 2-2.
The Waxers struck first, on Hill's second, but
the Islanders tied it. Darryl
Flowers picked up his first Jr A goal to make it 4-3 but again Thornhill
tied it 4-4 with 8:18 left. That set the stage for Olidis' second consecutive
game winner, a slapper over the goalies' shoulder with 5:30 remianing.
Greg van't Hof stopped 29 shots for his second win of the weekend.
