The inevitable letdown occurred this night as the North York Rangers gratefully accepted a gift of two points from the visiting Markham Waxers Saturday night as North York stole a 7-4 victory.

After North York scored an early goal to go up 1-0 in the second minute of the opening frame Markham stormed back with four straight goals. Pat Ferris scored his second of the year from Daniel Beaudoin and Robert Burrows at the three minute mark. Three minutes later Greg Chambers whipped home a wrist shot, his twenty-seventh of the year, to complete a scoring opportunity created by Paul Robinson and Jason Fraccaro. Midway through the frame Robinson scored his eighteenth, again Fraccaro picked up the assist. With five minutes remaining in the period the Waxers Rob Mazzuca fed Kevin Tompkins with a breakaway pass and the captain made no mistake as he tucked in his twenty-fourth goal of the campaign for a 4-1 lead. In the final seconds of the period North York would score on a rebound after netminder Chris DelRosario made a couple of initial saves to make it 4-2 after one.

The second period saw the roof cave in and the Rangers put themselves right back in the contest with two unanswered goals to even things at 4-4 through forty minutes. If the roof caved in the middle period then the whole house came tumbling down in the final frame as the Rangers scored three more times to complete their come from behind victory.

Clearly the Waxers fell asleep at the switch, however, sometimes there are days like that and there wasn't a gleeful blue and white sweater after the contest.

The Waxers have a break until Friday night when they host the Ajax Axemen at Centennial Arena at 8:00 pm. Then they follow the very next evening with a rematch against the same Thornhill Rattlers whom they defeated Friday night, this time in their home rink at 7:30pm.
