The Vaughan Vipers continued to make good use of
their horse shoes and stole a game from the Waxers, this time by a 5-2
count in another contest that had the scoreboard paint a rather inaccurate
picture.
The Vipers scored the lone goal of the opening period, on a powerplay at the
midway mark of the frame and took a 1-0 lead into the second period.
The Waxers tied the game at 1-1 halfway through the second period when Greg
Chambers wired a drive into the top shelf, Jimmy
Ball and Lawne Snyder
picked up assists. Less than three minutes later Vaughan scored to restore
their lead and led 3-1 after two.
At the eight minute mark of the final period Paul
Robinson's powerplay goal cut the deficit to 3-2. Kevin
Tompkins and Ball picked up assists. However the equalizer wouldn't
materialize and the Vipers would score twice more later in the period and the
Waxers season would end.
The Waxers are full marks for their efforts although that
consolation prize rests uncomfortably at the moment.
Despite the best efforts of the 24 young men the Waxers fell, prematurely.
The group of guys on this team were the best bunch that I've ever been
associated with in my few years of direct involvement. The privilege (yes it
was a privilege) of being allowed to serve, even in a minor capacity has been
extremely rewarding and the friendships gained along the way are absolutely
priceless.
With that perspective in mind the unfortunate turn of events do nothing to
blemish an experience that I'm extremely grateful for.
Thanks to all of you fine men (players, coaches, ownership, etc.) for making
the experience such a pleasant one. Some of you know that there are deep
emotions and convictions underlying these words and somehow mere words cannot
do those feelings and hopes any justice.
