The Waxers completed a tough weekend with 3 games in 3 nights earning 5 out of a possible 6 points losing an overtime thriller against the Aurora Tigers 5-4. The Waxers battled back from two 3-goal deficits in the first 24 minutes of play thanks to numerous bad penalties taken by a sluggish Waxer squad early in the game.

Markham ended the first period down 3-0 before capitalizing on their first powerplay of the second period when Kevin Tompkins scored from Brett Barrer and Ian Malcolm just 46 seconds in to the middle period. Aurora regained the three goal cushion before Markham scored three unanswered goals before the third period began.

Daniel Sisca (from Malcolm and Mike Clarke), Clarke (from Malcolm and Barrer) scored powerplay markers as well. Then Malcolm scored perhaps the prettiest goal to date, assisted by Barrer and Matt Selby to even the game at 4-4 with just over 27 minutes left in regulation.

With only 37 seconds left in overtime, an Aurora dump-in turned in to a game winning goal after the puck took a bad bounce off the boards and somehow deflected off goaltender Tom Lawson's skates and in to the net.

Lawson stopped 44 shots up until then including two marvelous saves in the third period while the Waxers were shorthanded to help send the game into overtime.

In the new OPJHL system, the Waxers earn 1 point for an overtime loss and the loss is recorded in the Overtime Loss column meaning the Waxers now have 22 points on the strength of a 10-4-1-1 record.

The Waxers continue their road swing as they visit Stouffville Thursday night before closing out the month at North York Centennial against the Rangers.
