WAXERS
REBOUND FROM ADVERSITY TO ROUT RANGERS Based on the performance in their last two Provincial Junior A Hockey League outings, the Waxers seem to fit that trait. Playing host to the Spirit of Stouffville on Friday, the Waxers were on the receiving end of a 6-3 drubbing. But less than 48 hours later, the Waxers came back in a big way to pummel the visiting North York Rangers 7-1. "The guys really responded well, which was good to see," Herrington said after Sunday's win. "A good hockey club can rebound after a disappointing effort and we did just that." In assessing Friday's subpar outing, Herrington could not put the finger on one factor. He felt, however, several reasons might have factored into the equation. "There was definitely a lack of focus and a lack of mental preparation. They didn't play with any sense of urgency or commitment until there was about 10 minutes left in the game. But by that time it was too late." Herrington felt the absence of veteran forward Kevin Tompkins, who was sitting out the the first of a two-game suspension after incurring a second fighting infraction during a stoppage in play last Monday, did not help his club's chances. "That left a huge hole on our team," Herrington noted. "I think the guys were looking around to see who was going to be the leader." Paul Robinson, Alex Stoyan and Rob Mazzuca each scored once for the Waxers, who trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes and 5-3 after two before the Spirit added an empty net goal in the final frame.
On Sunday, Greg Chambers recorded the hat trick and Robinson added two goals for the Waxers, who broke open a 1-1 first period tie with three unanswered markers in the second frame. Chris Petracco and Jason Young rounded out the scoring. Chris DelRosario followed up a strong effort between the pipes last Tuesday with another good game on Sunday. "The best part of having a bad performance is being able to play a game as soon as possible instead of practicing," Herrington said. "I think the guys all agreed with me that the only way to make up for Friday was to take it out on North York and I was happy with the effort (on Sunday)," he added. On the Waxers' injury front, goalkeeper B.J. Forsyth remains day-to-day after suffering post concussion syndrome in last Sunday's outing against Trenton. For now, Jeff Kepping, a call-up from the Waxers midget affiiliate will back up DelRosario.
