WAXERS ON VERGE OF
ELIMINATION With the loss, the Waxers trail the first round best-of-five Provincial Junior A Hockey League series two games to one. Despite the loss, Waxers Head Coach Russ Herrington remains optimistic his club could win the fourth game Monday night and force a fifth and deciding contest Tuesday night in Aurora. "The stuff we've battled through so far, the guys should be ready to play. We had a good talk with the guys after the game. It wasn't long, but everyone agrees that we feel good about ourselves and our chances." "We've worked hard this year to keep the guys positive. The guys should be happy with the way they played. All of te games have been close." In Sunday's game, the Waxers trailed 2-0 after one period but rallied to tie the game in the second on two power-play goals by David Colucci and Chris Petracco.
After a scoreless third period and first overtime session, the Tigers potted the game winner with 10 minutes left in the second extra frame. As the final score indicated, Herrington felt the Waxers had their share of chances to win the game. "The third period and overtime periods, I thought we had more scoring chances, especially in the second overtime period. We had about five or six chances." The Waxers received solid goaltending from Tom Lawson and solid efforts from their penalty killing units, which were forced to handle eight Tiger power plays in the first period alone. On Friday, the Waxers evened the series with a 4-1 win at Centennial Arena. Goals by Petracco and Ian Malcolm 40 seconds apart in the second period staked the Waxers to a 2-0 lead after two periods. After the Tigers scored a power-play goal to start the third period, Colucci scored just 59 seconds later to restore the two-goal lead. Daniel Sisca added an empty net goal to ice the win.
