MARKHAM HOCKEY RUNS IN THE
FAMILY
For first-year forward Robbie
Burrows, being a Waxer means a lot, maybe even a little more for him than the
average player. By playing with the Waxers, Rob becomes the third Burrows family member to
suit up for a Markham Junior Hockey Club.
Most Waxer fans will not recall the first Burrows, because they played for
Markham over 70 years ago.

Dean Burrows, Rob's grandfather, born in 1908, suited up
for Markham along with his younger brother Noel back in the days of the 10-11 player
teams. Their team photo (circa 1928) can be seen in the second level of the Markham
Centennial Centre just outside the Penalty Box Lounge.
Not much is known
about how successful the team was but from all accounts, Noel Burrows was
a tough, physical player who was the consummate team player.
Rob amassed 5 goals and 11 assists this season along with an amazing 4 PIM
and has certainly exemplified everything that is a Markham Waxer.
The Markham Junior Hockey Club prides itself on its tradition and the
Burrows family has been a big part of Markham hockey history.
