TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS INVITE WAXERS TO JOIN PARADE FROM MLG TO OPENING OF ACC

The Markham Waxers Junior "A" Hockey Club is very honoured and proud to be
invited and to join the "Memories & Dreams
Parade and Festivities".

Maple Leaf Gardens Parade
The transfer of the Maple Leafs banners from the Gardens to Air Canada Centre will be a
spectacle all Leafs fans should witness. Beginning at noon, the parade will leave the
Gardens and take the following route to Air Canada Centre: West to Yonge St.; south to
Front St., west to York St., and south to Bremner Blvd. to the west entrance of the arena.
Many Maple Leafs alumni will participate in the
parade, which will be led by the 48th Highlanders in fine Maple Leafs tradition.An
official dedication ceremony is scheduled immediately upon arrival at Air Canada Centre. |
The Markham Waxers are a former Farm Club of two of the greatest
organizations in hockey, The Toronto Marlboros Junior "A" Hockey Club, former
Memorial Cup Champions and the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club, 11 Stanley Cups.
The Waxers last played at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1974, in front of over
10,000 fans. The Waxers won over the Russian National under-18 Junior Team, 4-1, with John
Tonelli and Mark Napier in the lineup. The Markham Waxers Junior Hockey Club was OHA
(Ontario Hockey Association) Champions in 1941, 1969 and 1972 and Metro Toronto Champions
in 1968, 1969, 1972. The Markham Waxers Pee Wee "AAA" Team in in the Quebec
Peewee Tournament playing this week!
Over 100 Markham Waxer players went on to success in the NHL and WHA.
Another 200 graduated to the ranks in the OHL. Over 250 players have received U.S. College
scholarships or elected to go on to Canadian Colleges or Universities.
The Markham Junior Hockey Club has been a permanent fixture in Markham for
over 70 years. The Waxers are the oldest operating franchise in the OPJHL-OHA Junior
ranks.
The Markham Waxers Organization is very proud of
our past affiliations with the Toronto Marlboros and Toronto Maple Leafs, the "Tradition",
our Canadian "Heritage" and proud of our "Community".
We have a lot of deep tradition and are very proud. NHL players such as: Steve Thomas,
Adam Oates, Mike Palmateer, John Anderson, Ron Wilson, Rick Tabaracci, Wayne Dillon,
Charlie Huddy, Brian Hayward, Greg Millen, Mike Liut, Bob Daley, Jerome Dupont, Steve
Vickers, Dennis Maruk, Bruce Boudreau, Jim Thompson and all the former Markham Waxers
Alumni listed on The Markham Waxers Hockey Wall of Fame.

- The total concrete poured for the
arena could make a five-foot wide sidewalk stretching from Air Canada Centre to Niagara
Falls.
- There is enough wire in the arena to stretch from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver.
- Ten kilometers of steel piping is being installed for the ice rink alone.
- There is 2,000 tons of steel in the Air Canada Centre which is equivalent to 2,000
average-size cars. |
