Past winners include Herrington Alumnus Dominic Moore (1999) who this year tied a New York Ranger record by collecting 3 assists in his NHL debut, Steve Eminger of the Washington Capitals, Mike Camalleri of the LA Kings, Dan Paille Team Canada's Junior Captain and a Buffalo Sabres top prospect, and Nathan Horton of the Florida Panthers.
The OPJAHL was well represented on this years Top Prospects Team, taking 5 of the possible 6 spots. Goaltender Darren Machesney (Newmarket), defensemen Mike Kostka (Aurora and Matthew Corrente (Vaughan) and forward Andrew Cogliano (St Michael's) join Cottreau as selections this year with the 3rd forward being Ryan Bellows of Fort Erie in the Golden Horseshoe Jr B League. Winning this award is a fitting end to the terrific career Ben Cottreau had in a Waxer sweater. In his three years with Markham, Ben has received recognition in every possible aspect garnering selections to the Future Stars game as a rookie, being selected to the All-Star Game this season, being named South Division MVP as well as both South Division and OPJAHL Top Scorer. Now a member of the elite OHA Top Prospects, Cottreau can turn his attention to the NHL Draft being held June 26 and 27, 2004 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
