..FROM
THE DESK OF MIKE HAYAKAWA..
JANUARY 16, 2002
Over the last three Provincial Junior A Hockey League campaigns, the
Markham
Waxers have held the upper hand on the Oshawa Legionaires.
As far as Waxers' head coach Russ Herrington recalled, his team had a
17-game unbeaten streak against the Legionaires.
On Tuesday though, the Waxers¹ good fortune came to an end as the
Legionaires skated off with a 5-4 home ice win.
Ben Cottreau, Joey Grasso, Jesse Boucher and Mark Menonte each scored once
for the Waxers, who trailed 2-1 after one period and 5-3 through two.
Chris Lawrence started the game in goal for the Waxers but gave way to
Kevin
Sit once the Legionaires took a 5-2 lead late in the second period.
Despite the loss, Waxers¹ head coach Russ Herrington felt his charges
gave a
good account of themselves.
Only a couple of untimely miscues in their own end did the Waxers in, he
cited.
³We dug our selves into a hole that we couldn¹t get out of. We made five
bad
decisions in our own end and all five ended up on the board,² cited
Herrington. ³I thought we executed well throughout the whole night.²
Now 21-17-4-1 on the season, the Waxers host Pickering tomorrow at 8 p.m.
and play in Pickering on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
