TRAINING
CAMP KICKS OFF
With the 2001-2002 season fast approaching, the Markham Waxers Junior A
Hockey Club heads in to its 2001 Training Camp this week. This is the first
of three articles that will update you on the roster for the upcoming
season. Today's installment: The Graduates.
There have been a total of 12 graduates from last year's squad and we
wanted to let you in on what they will be doing for the 2001-2002 season.
NCAA
Jimmy Ball, who played
for the Waxers from 1998-2001, is off the ECAC where he will suit up for
the Skating Saints of St. Lawrence University.
Andy
Schofield is returning to his home state of Minnesota and will be
suiting up for the St. Thomas University varsity team.
Alex Stoyan, another
Waxer defensemen from 1998-2001, is currently mulling over a number of
offers from some Division 3 programs in Wisconsin and Illinois.
CIAU
James Regan is
following in Coach Herrington's footsteps and heading off to London, ON
and the University of Western Ontario. James was a two year veteran with
the Waxers.
Steve Kelly is heading
"back home" to the Maritimes and will be attending St. Mary's
University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Robert Burrows,
another three year veteran of the Waxers, will
be staying in the Toronto area and will continue to attend York
University.
MINOR PROFESSIONAL
Two-year Team Captain Kevin
Tompkins (1997-2001) and goaltender Rick
Marnon are hoping to remain teammates as they will both be attending
the training camp with the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL.
Adam Doucette is also
hoping to play in the ECHL next season and will be going to camp with the
Dayton Bombers.
COLLEGES
Mike Harding is also
heading down the 401 to London, where he will enrolled at Fanshawe College
while Mike Stoyan is
heading up the 400 to attend college in Barrie.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
Goaltender Dan Leclair
has decided to retire from competitive hockey as he has accepted an
Apprenticeship in the HVAC industry.
The Waxers wish all of the graduates the best of luck in the future and
hope to see them all in the arena through out the upcoming year.
