The
Markham Waxers hosted the St Michael’s Buzzers
for the final time this season, as they feted their six Graduating
Players in a moving pre-game ceremony.
The game was as expected, fast paced and up and down, but the Buzzers
were able to come out on top thanks to a late third period goal to make the
final 3-2.
After
entering the second period down 1-0,
Markham
scored two goals in a 26 second span to take a 2-1 lead.
Jeff Paisley scored the
first goal, streaking in on a breakaway and beating the Buzzers’ goalie on a deke
for his 11th as a Waxer.
Ben Cottreau
then kept up his goal-a-game pace, bagging his 42nd of the year by
pounding home a loose puck from between the hash marks.
St Michael’s would tie the score before the end of the second period
and would score the winner with
8:38
left on the clock in the third period.
Greg
van’t
Hof
stood tall in the Waxers net, stopping 33
shots.
