Markham's bad luck continued in the opening moments of the second game and combined with a club that struggled to put it all together resulted in a humbling 9-5 loss to the Vipers. This night nothing seemed to work for the Waxers but to their credit they didn't pack up the tent but battled right up into the final minute of the contest.

The evening got off to a most bizarre beginning and hindsight being what it is perhaps it foretold of things to come for the men in blue and white. Seconds into the contest and the Waxers pressuring the Viper goal the Vipers drew a penalty call, during the action that followed on the delayed call Waxers had six attackers on the ice and the puck was sent towards the point from the corner but instead it slid past everyone all the way into the Waxer empty net, just about dead centre as well. Twenty-seven seconds later Paul Robinson scored his fourth of the playoffs, first of this series from Greg Chambers to tie the score at 1-1. Thirty five seconds later with his other two linemates already off for a line change Chambers scored his sixth of the playoffs and the Waxers led for the only time in the contest 2-1. The Vipers would score twice later in the period, one of them on a powerplay to take a 3-2 lead after twenty minutes.

Then came a Viper onslaught, five goals, three of them of the powerplay variety in the opening ten minutes of the middle period. The Waxers sent rookie netminder Chris DelRosario in an effort to shake up the lethargic Waxer squad after the Vipers upped their lead to 5-2. Starting keeper Jeremy Wenzel could hardly be faulted on any of the goals scored against him as he wasn't nor would DelRosario after him, get any type of meaningful support. Chambers scored his second of the night from Jason Fraccaro and Lawne Snyder in the closing seconds of the period and the Waxers were in a big hole 8-3 after two.

Young Waxer fans aren't too worried. The Vipers added yet another powerplay goal, their fifth of the contest before Robinson would score his second of the night from Chambers to make it 9-4. In the final minute of play Brent Pollock scored from Jason Young as his shot from the high slot after a nice rush earned the Waxers their fifth goal of the night and mercifully this contest would conclude.

Markham has been through a lot already this season, they've endured some of the most unbelievable injury problems (they are still missing their captain Kevin Tompkins) and other circumstances that might have broken the spirit of many a club. This club is definitely one of character and has risen to the challenge many a time already.

They will have their chance to avenge this defeat Monday night when they play in Vaughan for game three (Feb. 28 @ 7:15pm).
