WORTH NOTING...

The Waxers have played better but the character of the club came through when they kept fighting back and refused to quit and hand the two points to the Raiders.

Lachapelle, Petracco and Tompkins were one of the two most effective units for Markham.

Clarke picked up three assists, all in the third period and ends up being the leading scoring defenceman on the club in terms of total points.

You ain't seen nothing yet" - this team is going places - big time!

The Wexford Raiders defeated the Markham Waxers 7-5 Sunday evening in the last game of the regular season for both clubs. The Waxers "Real Season" begins Tuesday night at Aurora at 7:30pm.

After the Raiders took a 2-0 lead earlier in the period Ian Malcolm scored his 47th of the season from Brett Barrer and Rob Bumbaco to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

The second period was the downfall of the Waxers as they gave up four consecutive goals before Bryan Lachapelle answered with his 19th of the season from Chris Petracco and Kevin Tompkins. After forty minutes it was 6-2 Wexford.

The third period the Waxers kept pouring it on scoring three times to cut the margin to a scant one-goal before the Raiders would put away a the game with an insurance marker with just under five minutes remaining. Lachapelle connected on a powerplay marker from Tompkins and Mike Clarke, to make it 6-3. Three minutes later Joel Kitchen faked out everyone (maybe himself as well) when he scored his seventh of the season from Clarke and Rob Burrows. Less than a minute after Kitchen's goal, Petracco scored his 18th of the year when a puck deflected in off his foot and through the Raider netminder, Clarke and Lachapelle picked up assists. That would be as close as the Waxers would get however. EDITOR
