WORTH NOTING...

The Waxers might have been excused if they came up with a poor effort as the day was a real long one. The team would have none of that however as they delivered a gutsy effort and dug deep to earn the victory.

Clarke had three assists as he played a solid game at both ends of the ice.

Barrer hit the 20-goal mark and it couldn't have been scripted better, a breakaway conversion.

You ain't seen nothing yet" - this team is going places - big time!

The Waxers earned a victory with solid team effort and "dug deep" after a long day (the Waxers day began at 8:30AM with the Maple Leaf Parade downtown, more on that later) and defeated Newmarket 6-3 at Centennial Arena.

After the Hurricanes took the lead 1-0 after one period the Waxers got back to even on Rob Bumbaco's powerplay goal seconds into the second period. Earning assists were Ian Malcolm and Mike Clarke. Four minutes later, Bryan Lachapelle scored his 18th of the season from Andrew Welch and Ryan Bayliss and the Waxers took the lead for the first time in the contest, a lead they'd not reliquish. Malcolm redirected a hard pass from Clarke for his 46th of the season to make it 3-1. Brett Barrer then scored on a breakaway tucking in his 20th of the season from Clarke and Malcom and the Waxers led 4-1 after two periods.

Barrer scored his second of the game seven minutes into the final frame from Bumbaco and Malcolm to make it 5-1 and basically put the game out of reach. The Hurricanes made things a little more interesting scoring twice while shorthanded as they caught the Waxers perhaps a bit tired after their long day. An empty net goal by Kevin Tompkins concluded the scoring, Tom Lawson picked up one of the two assists on the final score, Malcolm earned the other. EDITOR
