For the second straight meeting, the Waxers lost a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime decision to the Aurora Tigers.

A game in which Markham controlled the play and outshot the Tigers 40-27, goaltending proved to be the difference as the Tigers' netminder stood on his head and outplayed the Waxers' counterpart, Tom Lawson.

GOALIES IN GOOD HANDS

The Waxers are fortunate to have two excellent netminders in Tom Lawson and Mike Lee. Under the tutelage of expert instructor Jeff Laceby it is reasonable to expect them to improve as the season continues.

Laceby's had tremendous success with numerous netminders that have moved on to have successful post-Junior careers and there is every reason to expect that to continue as Laceby who was brough on board to work especially with the goaltenders continues to assist the youngsters on techniques and mental preparation.

At least that is how this observer sees it. EDITOR

The first period saw the Tigers jump out to a quick 2-0 lead before the Waxers battled back to even the before the midway mark of the second period. Robert Burrows got the Waxers on the board from Joel Kitchen and Locky Gelinas. Ian Malcolm's first of two goals during a powerplay tied it at 2-2. Chris Petracco and Bryan Lachapelle drew assists on Malcolm's effort. The Tigers would score on a powerplay chance of their own a minute later and to take a 3-2 lead after two complete.

Petracco's powerplay goal early in the third evened things up once again at 3-3 with Lachapelle and Lawne Snyder earning helpers. Malcolm scored his second of the night from Mike Clarke, also during a man advantage situation and the Waxers had their first lead of the contest at 4-3. It was not to be however, as the Tigers tied it up at 4-4 with less than four minutes remaining in regulation before going to net the winning goal in overtime.

The Waxers next game is Friday as they play the first of a home-and-home series against the Thornhill Rattlers at Centennial Arena.
