The Markham Waxers showed that even when they don't play well as a unit that they still have the ability to win hockey games.

A generally flat-footed Waxer team fell behind quickly 2-0 before Ian Malcolm scored in the first from Brett Barrer and Kevin Tompkins. Chris Petracco scored in the second to even the game up, Bryan Lachapelle and Tompkins drawing assists.

North York would score a quick powerplay goal in the third to take a 3-2 lead which was brief as Daniel Sisca converted on a Waxer powerplay with helpers going to Lawne Snyder and Andrew Robillard. Rob Mazzuca scored the eventual game winner less than a minute later, Sisca and Robillard earning assists.

After their slow start the play was much more fluid in the second but it's a sure bet that Coach Russ Herrington or his staff may have a few words of unsolicited advice for a few members of the young defense corps, mainly a lesson on effective puck control as several ill-advised passes or clearing attempts resulted in dangerous situations in the defensive zone.

Tom Lawson who shared goaltending duties with Mike Lee tonight made a couple of large saves in the third period to preserve the victory. .

The Waxers next game is Thursday night as they hit the road to take on the Couchiching Terriers before returning home to face the Huntsville Wildcats at Centennial Arena on Friday night.
