The Waxers took game one of the home-and-home weekend series from the visiting Shelburne Wolves by a 7-4 count.

The Waxers struck quickly as Brett Barrer converted during a powerplay with assists to Ian Malcolm and Mike Clarke. The early lead would be short-lived, however, as Shelburne tied it at 1-1 less than a minute later on a shot that Waxers netminder Tom Lawson would probably admit that he should have had. Jason Goldenberg would net a pair of goals on helpers from Daniel Sisca and Kevin Tompkins on the first, and Chris Petracco and Clarke on the second to take the Waxers into the second period with a 3-1 lead.

The second period wasn't a pretty sight however, as Shelburne netted three straight goals before the midway mark to turn the game around and take a 4-3 lead. Jimmy Ball would score his third of the year from Clarke and Sisca to even it up before Ian Malcolm netted his tenth of the year, the eventual game winner with less than two minutes left in the period with Clarke earning yet another assist.

The third period saw the Waxers outshoot the Wolves 15-4 as this was one they weren't going to let slip away. Petracco from Lachapelle and Jim Stamatopoulos in the first minute of the final period gave Markham some breathing room before Stamatopoulos scored the final goal of the night with assist going to Petracco and Lachapelle.

There were some real bright spots in the contest as veteran defenceman Clarke continues to impress at both ends of the rink, tonight racking up four assists. The trio of Stamatopoulos, Lachapelle and Petracco combined for seven points.

The Waxers next game is Saturday night as they visit the Shelburne Wolves to complete the home-and-home series before visiting Aurora to take on the Tigers as they complete a busy weekend schedule with three games in as many nights.
