The Markham Waxers were victorious in their College Weekend game versus the Kingston Voyageurs on the strength of a 4-3 score.

The Waxers reversed the trend from the first two regular season games by storming out of the gate to take an early 2-0 lead at the end of the first. Andrew Robillard one-timed a Jim Ulcar pass to score the first goal with Daniel Sisca picking up the second helper. Ten minutes later, Kevin Tompkins scored his first of two goals on the day with assists going to Ian Malcolm and Brett Barrer.

The lead was upped to 3-0 when Tompkins scored his second from Malcolm on a 2-0 break early in the second period. Kingston scored once to make it 3-1 before the Waxers inserted Mike Lee in place of starter Tom Lawson (who made 18 saves in the first half of the game). The Waxers rounded out their scoring when Chris Bahen redirected a pass from Tompkins to complete a pretty 3-way passing play that started from Chris Petracco.

Kingston scored once more in the second to make it 4-2 and then scored in the third period on a point shot that deflected off a Waxer defender into the Markham cage with 4 minutes left to make the outcome close.

The Waxers notched a pair of powerplay markers in the opening frame and then did an outstanding job of penalty killing. Mike Lee stopped 19 of 21 shots he faced in the second half of the game to preserve the victory.
