The Markham Waxers fell behind early once again at the start of the game and this time learned that to be successful in this league they'll have to play smarter hockey right from the opening buzzer.

Wexford took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes as the period was semi-salvaged by a great effort by Lawne Snyder to put the Waxers on the board with less than 30 seconds left in the frame.

After that it was a see-saw battle except unfortunately the Waxers were down before the goal exchange began. Jimmy Ball scored his first Jr. goal at the half way point of the second to even things up and five minutes later after Wexford had once again taken the lead at 3-2 Jim Ulcar scored his first Jr. goal to even it up once again. Wexford went up less than two minutes later and after 40 minutes it was 4-3 Raiders.

Wexford scored early in the third to go up 5-3 before Kevin Tompkins who was once again a tireless worker all night long scored with less than 8 minutes left to cut the deficit to one. The Waxers had numerous opportunities to tie and stayed in the game until the very end thanks to a huge save with four minutes left in the contest by Tom Lawson on a clearcut Raider breakaway. The buzzer sounded as the Waxers were pressing with 6 attackers but unable to setup for a game tying shot in the closing seconds and the game ended with a 5-4 loss.

Waxers' Head Coach Russ Herrington refused to blame the loss on anything but the lacklustre showing of his squad in the opening frame. The Waxers will definitely come out differently in their next game on Sunday against the Kingston Voyageurs (part of College Weekend).
